Sleeping pets don’t l-i-e! How to tell if they’re cold this winter...

Despite (hopefully) being the furriest member of the family, it can be surprisingly hard to know if our pets really are handling the cold. Here’s how you solve the mystery and make sure their winter is a warm one…

Sleeping pets don’t lie. In fact, whether their body makes an ‘l’, an ‘i’ or an ‘e’ shape when they’re resting says it all. Seriously. Have a look at them right now. Warm cats or dogs will sprawl flat and straight across the floor and radiate any excess body heat into the cooler floor. Thereby creating an ‘l’ or an ‘i’ shape. If they’re feeling the winter chill however, they’ll bunch themselves up and tuck their legs in to form a tight ball; trapping that body warmth; making the ‘e’ shape. Cold pets also become heat-seeking missiles. Locking themselves into warm laps, blankets or that spot near the heater.

Obviously if you’re in any doubt, lend them an extra layer or a blanket and let them feel the winter love…
