Apparently cats have known their names all this time. So why don’t they come running?

This news may just confirm our worst fears...

It turns out that cats know their name perfectly well when we call them. They just choose not to respond. But maybe they’re just waiting for the right time...or the right pronunciation?

Research just released by a Japanese University shows that cats are not just capable of differentiating their name from similar sounding words, they even know they’re being spoken to when a complete stranger calls out to them. Scientists used tell-tale movements of the head and ears, along with a swish of the tail to prove the recognition.

It seems the only reason they don’t rush to you when they’re called is because they lack the strong food motivation dogs are renowned for. That, or they’re just waiting to see if you have something more interesting to say.

As you can see, I’ve put the theory to the test. And got a head turn, tail swish and glare in return. I wonder if you’ll have more luck...
