So what is L-theanine?

So what is L-theanine?
Dr. Chris Brown
by CHRIS BROWN

I always want to be completely transparent around what goes into my treats. It's important. But I'm also quite proud to say I've done the research so you don't have to!

So L-theanine is an amino acid found in a particular variety of green tea. Considering tea is enjoyed by billions of people every day, you could say it’s been sitting under our noses this whole time...

And the extensive research around what it does is pretty remarkable. The well respected Journal of Veterinary Behaviour found it promotes calmness (good) and reduces irritability (important) and anxiety related behaviour in dogs. And all while being remarkably safe. It’s also particularly effective with the anxiety caused by thunderstorms. So L-theanine is essentially a real all-rounder…

L-theanine really represents why I created my health boosting Drool treats. I don’t want to just do what everyone else is doing. I want better ingredients like Aussie chicken breast and actual results from supplements I’ve hand picked because they’re actually scientifically proven to help the four legged family. It’s why they’re treats you can trust.

How does it work?
Well, after being absorbed it takes around 30-40 minutes to take effect. L-theanine actually has a really positive effect on brain wave activity by promoting the ‘alpha waves’ that mean dogs, cats and people are awake and alert but also more relaxed physically and mentally. Yes, it means they’re both Calm and Collected. Hence the name. Because L-theanine allows for calm, controlled thinking (rather than sedating them which I never wanted!), I also use this supplement in my Drool School Snacks. It actually helps with learning and calm concentration…
