An update on the koala that broke us

An update on the koala that broke us

We all had our heart broken when we saw that frightened koala walking into the bushfire flames last night. Well, here’s an update on how the brave little guy is going.

Lewis was rushed to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital and received immediate care that focused on rehydration and pain relief. Provided he makes it through the next 12 hours, he’ll then be placed in the koala equivalent of an induced coma to have his wounds more aggressively managed and dressed. He’ll continue to receive fluids and added nutrition to give him the best chance of healing. Sadly, he’s touch and go right now. The level and depth of burns Lewis received can tragically sometimes be too much for a koala to handle.

He’s in the very best hands at the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. Here’s hoping this little man can make a miracle recovery.
