When drought and an increased demand for water caused this South African dam to dry up, it sent thousands of adult flamingos into panic. They abandoned their nests leaving their chicks behind. But thankfully, one of the biggest bird rescues in history is saving these tiny little chicks. Up to 2000 baby flamingos are currently receiving round the clock care and feeding.
And while a smoothie of prawns, sardines, egg yolk and baby formula might make our stomach turn, its turning these little lives around by mimicking what they normally receive from their parents. They're now growing quickly and will soon be able to be released back into the wild.
